Ethereum Foundation Board Grows to 4 Members, Adds Security Researcher pcaversaccio

The Ethereum Foundation has expanded its board from three seats to four, appointing longtime security researcher pcaversaccio (Pascal Caversaccio) to a one-year voluntary term. The move brings the foundation’s top governance body to Aya Miyaguchi, Vitalik Buterin, Patrick Storchenegger and now pcaversaccio, according to two independent reports on the appointment.

The board is the small group tasked with setting the Ethereum Foundation’s strategic direction and checking that management decisions stay aligned with its stated values — censorship resistance, open-source development, privacy and security. It also functions as a “security council” ensuring the foundation complies with Swiss law, where it is legally domiciled.

Who is pcaversaccio

pcaversaccio is one of the more recognizable names in Ethereum’s security community. He co-founded SEAL 911, an emergency-response initiative that helps protocols react to exploits and incidents in real time, and previously sat on the foundation’s Silviculture Society, an internal advisory group that informally guards the organization’s core principles.

His board term is structured as a one-year voluntary appointment rather than a permanent seat, a detail both reports confirm. That framing leaves room for the foundation to revisit board composition again next year as it continues restructuring its leadership.

A board built during a period of churn

The appointment lands in the middle of a broader shake-up at the Ethereum Foundation. Several senior researchers and executives have left the organization in recent months, with some launching new Ethereum-focused ventures outside the foundation’s direct structure, including initiatives such as ETH Ventures and Ethereum Institutional gaining visibility across the ecosystem.

Rather than backfilling departed staff roles one-for-one, the foundation appears to be consolidating governance at the board level while letting spin-out organizations absorb some of the operational work previously done in-house. Adding a security-focused figure like pcaversaccio to the four-person board signals that protocol safety and incident response remain a priority even as the foundation’s broader organizational footprint shifts.

Why it matters for ETH holders

The Ethereum Foundation does not set ETH’s price, but its board decisions shape how the protocol’s largest steward allocates grants, responds to security incidents, and interacts with the wider validator and developer ecosystem. A four-member board with a dedicated security researcher gives the foundation direct expertise on exploit response inside its highest decision-making tier, at a time when the organization is otherwise losing experienced staff to outside ventures.

For builders and node operators who rely on the foundation’s grants, research output and incident coordination, the composition of this small board carries outsized weight relative to its size — it is effectively the body deciding how EF resources get deployed as the organization reshapes itself around a smaller, longer-term stewardship role rather than day-to-day operations.
